The Pig Innovation Center in Northern Ireland is a test farm for one of the major supermarket groups in the United Kingdom. The research at the Center is carried out to provide the best advises on producing high welfare Pigs. Many tests are performed in the field of the carbon footprint philosophy and energy efficiency, as well as on feed, flooring and animal welfare.
The Multifan ECplus has interesting features, it is reliable and payback time is certainly less than 5 years
At the Pig Innovation Center one has chosen to install the Multifan ECplus concept in 11 Pig finisher rooms. Major reason for choosing this concept was the high expectations on energy savings.
“For farmers it is important that running costs and electric costs per Pig are reduced”, says farm manager Gavin Hodgson. “In addition, for the supermarket group it is important to run the farm efficient as possible as part of the carbon footprint philosophy”.
With the support of ventilation expert and Multifan dealer Thomas Rainey of TR Ventilation, they looked at all the specifications, fan capacities, durability and service. “The Multifan ECplus has interesting features, it is reliable and payback time is certainly less than 5 years” states Gavin Hodgson. “Also if we would build new houses, it will definitely be with the Multifan ECplus”.
The fan and controller are mounted respectively in and at the chimneys. “The IP65 housings allow flexibility in positioning the tube and controller” says Gavin. “We even installed one of the controllers in the attic, due to limited space in the pig house. The Multifan ECplus is washed between every production run. Everything is waterproof, so no problems occur and as long as it works, I’m happy”, concludes a satisfied farm manager.
