Save on Heating Costs with Industrial Ceiling Fans

It's that time of the year again — winter. The colder months will soon be on us, and especially with the current energy prices, this means high heating costs. But, there is an alternative to your costly central heating system or heaters that can help save you money on your heating bill! By installing industrial ceiling fans in your factory hall, warehouse or any other building with high ceilings, you can improve the distribution of warm air between ceiling and floor. Resulting in significant savings on heating costs. We will explain why that is, and how you can get ready for the winter!

Because warm air rises, the temperature on the floor is lower than on the ceiling. This difference per meter of height can be 0,5 to 1 °C, so especially with higher ceilings there can be a difference of more than 10 °C.

Meaning that in high buildings there can be a temperature of 30 °C just beneath the ceiling, while on thermostat level there is a temperature of 18-20°C. So in order to get a comfortable temperature at work-level, most of the area needs to be heated much more extensively. Resulting in high heating costs. In addition, there are many transmission heat losses through building elements. The bigger the difference between the outside and the inside temperature, the more heat will be lost and energy will be wasted.

Ceiling fans to reclaim stratified heat and increase comfort

With the help of ceiling fans installed at the top of the ceiling, it is possible to push down the hot air to where it needs to be, at the workplace. When hot air is evenly distributed, also heat losses will decrease significantly. Meaning you need less heat to reach the desired temperature at thermostat level and less heat to maintain comfortable throughout the day.

How to use the Multifan Ceiling Fan

A Multifan Ceiling Fan has an airflow of 21.500 m3/h and is particularly suitable for high ceilings. We recommend using one fan for every free ±220 m2 of floor space. Be aware to place it as little as possible above shelves and racks in order to get an optimal result. Furthermore, it is advisable to use a central speed controller to adjust the airflow as everybody on the work floor experiences air movement differently.

Before installing ceiling fans please consider the below:

  • Measure the temperature difference between ceiling and floor to make sure you can benefit from ceiling fans.
  • Consider where to hang the fans. Make use of existing beams for an easy installation and avoid shelves or racks directly underneath the fans. Divide them evenly across the hall so you optimally use their airflow.
  • In specific situations, the desired airflow may vary. For our ceiling fan you can consider using our transformer or triac controllers.
  • In case the height of the ceiling is above 10 meters, you should consider using beams that are placed lower or create a structure at 10 meters height, in order to get an optimal result.

Get ready for the winter!

With current energy prices, the initial investment for the fans and the installation will be recouped very quickly. In the winter, the energy usage will be less while maintaining the desired temperature at floor level. And in the summer the airflow will keep people comfortable by bringing the apparent temperature down (wind chill). Interested in our ceiling fans or need advice on your specific situation?
